Belimed History

Belimed AG was founded as a joint-venture between Belinox and Gehrig AG in 1990. While Belinox had a long history in fine craftsmanship and precision engineering of stainless steel products, Gehrig had a strong competency in producing high quality washers for restaurants and hotels. The vision of the founders was to combine the fine stainless steel workmanship with the washer engineering know-how and bring out new, innovative products for the medical arena.

The name Belimed was derived from Belinox which is a combination of the French word “Bel” meaning beautiful and the word “Inox” widely used as synonym for stainless steel.

In the late 90’s two major acquisitions dramatically increased Belimed’s product portfolio and had a considerable impact on the level of differentiated technologies available:

■ Netzsch Newamatic GmbH, Waldkraiburg/Germany founded    in 1968, introduced its first washer disinfector in 1968
■ Sauter AG, Sulgen/Switzerland founded in 1923, introduced    its first sterilizer in 1977.

Both organizations were easily integrated into the Belimed family primarily as a result of the similar cultures focused on reliability and customer satisfaction. Over the years these organizations and a number of smaller acquisitions have combined to form a unified organization focused on meeting the needs of customers in sterile processing and aseptic processing departments worldwide. Belimed has grown to be the second largest provider of SPD equipment in Europe and maintains market leadership positions in Germany, Switzerland and Austria.

1994 marked the introduction of the Belimed brand in the US with the establishment of US operations in Miami, Fl. A similar culture of innovation and quality emerged from the Miami offices and the introduction of the first high volume washer automation system was introduced in 1996. With the growth in the US business came a need to expand manufacturing and shipping operations and utilize a more centrally located port. In early 2008, Belimed completed the relocation of the US headquarters to Charleston SC.
